Your training is a combination of classroom and practical elements like role plays, simulations and compulsory work placement. This gives you the knowledge to maintain a therapeutic alliance with clients living with mental health issues. You will also learn how to work from a recovery oriented perspective that is strength based and client centred. You will gain the skills and knowledge to become a successful practitioner in this complex sector.

As part of our practical approach to learning, the mental health course includes a mandatory work placement. The work placement is not only a vital part of our students’ education, it also provides them with great contacts to the industry.
Due to the hands-on nature of our courses, students will be well prepared by the time their work placement starts, ensuring that they enter it with confidence. As part of the work placement students will be evaluated on their performance when carrying out the acquired skills under workplace conditions.
The work placement for this mental health course are in two separate blocks of 200 hours each.
No prior qualifications is needed to undertake this mental health course
However, it is recommended that students have at least one qualification in the Community Services/Health field before undertaking the Diploma. Our aged care and disability care courses would provide good foundation skills and work experience for the Diploma courses.
Diploma students must be able to bring in a laptop or tablet device to class (it will not be supplied).
Students must also fulfil the College’s requirements for English proficiency.
